How We Gather and Track User Information
When you place your first order at Pitman, you must register for a user account and provide your name, e-mail address, mailing address, phone number, and credit account number and expiration date. This information allows us to process and fulfill your order successfully and to notify you of your order status.
Relevant information may be passed along to our partners for order fulfillment or accounting purposes only.*
* Instances where your user account information is shared with a partner:
- Your credit account information or other payment method will be shared with our payment processors solely for the purpose of processing your order.
- Your name and mailing address will be shared with our shipping partners so that they may deliver your order.

When you contact our Customer Service Department, a representative may ask for your name, mailing address, phone number, account number, or order number to help serve you better. You provide this information to us voluntarily, and Pitman will use it only to assist you with the matter at hand.

How We Protect Your Online Order
Encryption and Digital I.D.'s
Pitman uses the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) to encrypt any personal information you transmit to us online. SSL is the industry standard and among the best software available today for secure e-commerce transactions. Other e-commerce sites, banks, and even governments use SSL to protect their valuable information resources.
How does it work? SSL encrypts all of your personal information -- including credit card number, name, and address -- so that it cannot be read as the information travels over the Internet. Pitman uses SSL to provide our customers with secure connections during the checkout process, meaning that information is encrypted before it is transmitted over the Internet from your computer to Pitman. When you are in the payment options screen in the checkout process, you can verify that your connection is secure in one of two ways: (1) Look for a key or a padlock at the bottom of your browser that indicates a secure connection or (2) check to see that the URL (or web site address) for Pitman has changed from "http://www.pitman.com/store" to "https://www.pitman.com/store". Once your information arrives at Pitman your credit card number is stored on a server located on a separate network from the web server. It is also separated from the site's Internet connection by a firewall and cannot be accessed from the Internet.
In addition, Pitman uses a VeriSign Secure Server ID to verify security on our web site Before you send information to us, the VeriSign digital ID validates that you are transmitting your information to the Pitman web site
Internal Security Procedures
We at Pitman believe that, in addition to external security measures such as encryption and digital IDs, it is important to implement strict internal security policies to protect our customers more fully. We educate our entire staff on the importance of security and customer privacy, and reinforce this message frequently through verbal and written policy education. Additionally, we limit the amount of internal personnel who have access to sensitive information - only those who have a need-to-know are given this privilege, and we regularly assess their habits and practices to be sure they adhere strictly to our security and privacy initiatives.
Any customer information we retain is stored on a computer that cannot be accessed from the Internet at all. This server exists on a separate network behind a "firewall" to ensure that it cannot be accessed, to further ensure that all our customer information is safe as possible from intrusion by potential hackers.

Cookies - What Are They and Why Should I Allow Them?
Cookies are small pieces of information that a web site stores on your computer's hard drive. Usually a cookie is designed to remember and tell a web site some useful information about you. * We use cookies to provide you with practical features such as the ability to store items in your shopping cart between visits and to retain your registration information for a specified amount of time between visits so you do not need to sign on again within that period. Cookies cannot be used by Pitman to retrieve any personal information about you unless you have previously purchased from or registered with Pitman.
Most browsers are initially set to accept cookies. When you accept a cookie at a web site and then revisit that site at a later time, your computer sends the cookie information back to the site to enhance your online experience. The use of cookies is an industry standard, and many major web sites use them to provide additional customization and enhanced features for their customers. However, if you prefer, you can set your browser to refuse cookies.
Even without a cookie, you can still use most of the features in our store. Be aware, though, that cookies are usually harmless, and you will not be able to take full advantage of our web site if you disable them. You will need to have your cookies turned on to order from our store or participate in an auction on our web site

Your Obligation as a Pitman User
Much of the Information available to the Customer via Pitman's secure section of the website is CONFIDENTIAL. The Customer agrees to keep all information confidential and to use the information solely for its internal business purposes. Customer agrees that access to Pitman's secure site shall be limited to Customer's authorized employee(s) to whom Customer shall provide Customer's password. Customer shall be solely responsible for control of its password. Customer may change its password at any time and is urged to do so whenever an authorized employee leaves its employ or is reassigned to a position not requiring access to the Customer Center. The Pitman website is maintained for the convenience of Pitman Customers. Any Customer wishing to speak in person with a Customer Service Representative is invited to do so at anytime. Either party can terminate the customer's electronic access to Pitman's secure site at any time by electronic or written notice to the other party. Termination of this access shall not close Customer's business account relationship with Pitman unless the notice so specifies.
Security and Other Terms
Customer may supply an E-mail Address of an officer or senior manager who will verify on request by Pitman that the above user is still an authorized employee. If a response is not received within 5 business days of the request, access to the account will be suspended until acknowledgement is received. Pitman shall have the on-going right but not the responsibility to randomly verify authorization and/or to require that the Customer adopt a new password. Customer agrees to indemnify and hold harmless Pitman from any claims or losses arising out of unauthorized access to Customer's account and/or disclosure of confidential information by any person other than Pitman's employees. Customer agrees to promptly report any suspected unauthorized access or use. The Customer agrees to pay for all purchases made through the Pitman website account in accordance with Pitman's standard terms. Customer represents that all purchases are for its own use and not for resale. All information available through Pitman's secure site is subject to audit and correction of errors and omissions. Customer agrees to promptly report any errors. All Prices are subject to change without notice. All goods are offered subject to availability. Customer agrees to pay freight and restocking charge on any non-defective item that is returned. Pitman shall not be responsible for transmission errors, computer system or internet outages, viruses and the like.
